Sehwag’s and Dravid’s sons named in India’s U19 Asia Cup squad

India have named their squad for the Under-19 Asia Cup, and two famous names are back in the team list — through their sons. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-player squad on Friday, 30 October 2026, for the ACC Men’s U19 Asia Cup in Muscat, Oman, from 5 to 14 November.

Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, and Anvay Dravid, son of former India captain and coach Rahul Dravid, are both in the squad. Anvay is one of two wicketkeepers, alongside Rajat Baghel. Uttarakhand batter Lakshya Raichandani will captain the side, with Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan as his deputy.

India go into the tournament in good form, with largely the same group that beat Australia 3-0 in the recent Youth ODI series at home.

India are in Group A with Pakistan, Nepal and the UAE, and the top two teams from each group reach the semi-finals. India open against Nepal on 6 November, then face Pakistan on 8 November — the match most fans will circle first — before finishing the group against the UAE on 10 November. The semi-finals are on 12 November and the final is on 14 November.

Why it matters

The two family names will grab the attention, but this is not a sentimental pick. Both players earned their places through the youth system: Aaryavir opened the batting in the Youth ODIs against Australia, while Anvay kept wicket and batted in the middle order.

The tournament is also a test of India’s youth pipeline. The Asia Cup builds towards the 2028 Under-19 World Cup, so this squad is an early look at the players who could carry Indian cricket in the years ahead.

What happens next

India will train in Muscat in the coming days ahead of the Nepal opener on 6 November. The Pakistan match two days later will be the biggest early test, with a semi-final place likely on the line. If India finish in the top two of Group A, they will play a semi-final on 12 November, with the final to follow on 14 November.
