Several people shot near Legion Field in Birmingham after Magic City Classic
Several people were shot near Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday evening, 31 October 2026, shortly after the 85th Magic City Classic game had ended. Birmingham police said the shooting happened at about 7:50 p.m. near the 400 block of Graymont Avenue, close to the stadium, and that several people had been hit by gunfire.
Emergency crews were sent to the scene. CNAW2 reported that at least two rescue units had already left, while more victims were still being treated in the 300 and 400 blocks of Graymont Avenue. Police cordoned off the area and urged the public to stay away.
At 9:59 p.m. on Saturday, Birmingham police announced that all Magic City Classic tailgating had been suspended. People were told to leave stadium property as soon as possible, and the public was urged not to travel to Legion Field at that time. The department said it would share updated information as soon as possible.
As of Saturday evening, police had not released the number of people shot, the extent of their injuries, or whether any arrests had been made. The circumstances surrounding the shooting also remained unclear.
The shooting came minutes after the end of the rivalry game between Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University. Alabama A&M beat Alabama State 31-28 in the 85th Magic City Classic at Legion Field, ending a four-game losing streak against its rival, according to Alabama A&M Athletics.
