Arch Insurance agrees to buy car-dealership insurer Premier Dealer Services
Arch Insurance North America has agreed to buy Premier Dealer Holding Corp., including its car-dealership insurance business, Premier Dealer Services. Arch announced the deal on Friday, 30 October 2026. The price was not disclosed.
Premier Dealer Services, known as PDS, is based in Dublin, Ohio. It provides finance and insurance products, known as F&I, to car dealerships, including loyalty schemes and vehicle protection plans sold alongside new and used cars. The company was founded in 1998 and says its technology, training and long-standing dealer relationships help dealerships earn more from each sale and keep customers coming back.
Arch is the North American insurance arm of Arch Capital Group, a Bermuda-based company listed on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker ACGL. Arch Capital had about $27.3 billion in capital at 30 September 2026 and is a member of the S&P 500 index. Arch said the purchase would combine its insurance knowledge with PDS’s administration, technology and dealer network.
“PDS has built a strong business with an experienced team, differentiated technology and extensive dealer relationships,” said Matt Shulman, chief executive of Arch Insurance North America. “Bringing PDS and Arch together will strengthen our capabilities in the automotive F&I market.” John Topits, chief executive of PDS, said joining Arch would give the firm the financial strength to keep investing in people, products and technology.
Why it matters
The deal matters because F&I is a large and often overlooked part of buying a car. When a customer buys a vehicle, the dealer commonly offers extra products such as extended warranties and protection plans, and the firms behind those products share in the income. By buying PDS, Arch gains a ready-made dealer network and the technology that runs those programmes, instead of building its own. For PDS, the backing of a much larger insurer should mean more money to develop products and support dealers. Arch says PDS will keep operating as a standalone business inside its Consumer Division, and dealers will keep working with the same Premier team they know today.
What happens next
The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, but it still needs regulatory approval and other standard closing conditions to be met. Until then, both companies will continue to operate separately. TD Securities acted as Arch’s exclusive financial adviser on the deal, and law firm Eversheds Sutherland acted as its legal adviser.
