Temple, Deepinder Goyal’s Rs 85,000 brain-tracking wearable, opens pre-orders today
Pre-orders open on Sunday, 1 November, for Temple, the brain-tracking wearable from a venture founded by Zomato co-founder Deepinder Goyal. The first batch, called Batch 01, will be sold through the Temple app, Digit reported on Friday, 30 October.
Temple is a small, pill-shaped sensor with no screen, buttons or vibration alerts. It sticks to the side of the head, between the forehead and the ear, using single-use adhesive patches called Grips. BrainFlow optical sensors track changes in signals linked to blood flow in the brain, and an Entropy score from 1 to 250 is meant to show strain from sleep, exercise, stress and caffeine.
The first batch is reported to cost Rs 85,000 in India, based on early-access invitations shared with prospective buyers. That is said to include lifetime software access, personal onboarding and a lifetime supply of Grips. The company has not officially confirmed the price, so it should be treated as reported, not final. Each device is handmade to order, with delivery within three months, so November buyers should get theirs in early 2027. Temple is not a medical device: it is for wellness and research, not diagnosis or treatment, and it does not claim to measure exact blood flow to the brain.
Why it matters
Most wearables track the wrist. Temple aims at the head, offering readings no smartwatch provides — which is why its price and evidence matter. At Rs 85,000, it costs more than twice an Oura Ring 5 in India, which Gizbot priced at Rs 39,900 plus a monthly membership. The validation so far is thin. The main BrainFlow study, a September preprint on medRxiv, compared it with hospital ultrasound in only 23 healthy adults and found a correlation of about 0.8. It is not peer-reviewed, and Temple funded it. A good result in a small, controlled test does not prove the readings will be useful in everyday life.
What happens next
The first test is demand: the company has not said how many units are in Batch 01. Buyers should watch for official price confirmation and peer-reviewed research on BrainFlow outside the lab. The earliest real-world verdicts will come from first buyers, due to receive their devices in early 2027.
