Egypt’s Grand Egyptian Museum marks first year with new ‘Eternal Sun’ light show
Egypt’s Grand Egyptian Museum is marking the first anniversary of its opening with a new after-dark show. “Eternal Sun”, a 35-minute light and music experience, launches in the museum’s Grand Hall on Sunday, 1 November 2026 — exactly one year after the museum opened its doors.
The show uses projection mapping, lasers and moving lights, with live music and narration in Arabic and English, to take visitors through 5,000 years of Egyptian history. It runs twice a night, at 7:30pm and 9pm, on Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and is listed to run until 30 April 2027.
Tickets cost EGP 480 for Egyptian adults and EGP 240 for Egyptian children aged six to 12, while visitors of other nationalities pay EGP 1,500 for adults and EGP 750 for children. The ticket covers the show only, not entry to the museum’s galleries. Children must be at least six years old, and under-15s must come with an adult.
The museum says the show includes flashing lights, lasers and loud music, and warns it is not suitable for people with epilepsy or sensitivity to flashing lights. Visitors may take photos and videos on their phones, but flash, tripods, selfie sticks, drones and live streaming are not allowed.
Why it matters
The museum, which sits beside the Giza Pyramids, is the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to a single civilisation. It holds more than 100,000 artefacts, including the complete collection of treasures from Tutankhamun’s tomb — over 5,000 pieces shown together for the first time since the tomb was found in 1922. The anniversary show is part of a wider year of cultural events at the museum, after a record year for Egyptian tourism in 2025.
What happens next
The first performances take place on Sunday evening. The museum’s anniversary programme is set to continue through the year, with more concerts and performances planned. Visitors are advised to book tickets in advance through the museum’s official website, as tickets are for a set date and time and cannot be refunded or transferred.
