Rupee closes slightly stronger at Rs276.72 to the dollar, SBP data shows

The Pakistani rupee closed slightly stronger against the US dollar on Monday, ending the first trading session of the week at Rs276.72, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

The central bank’s official closing rate for 2 November 2026 was Rs276.7219 per dollar. That is a small gain of about three paisa from the previous close of Rs276.75, meaning the rupee strengthened rather than weakened over the day.

The figure is the SBP’s mark-to-market revaluation rate, which the central bank compiles as a weighted average of the closing interbank exchange rates collected through brokerage houses. It is the official reference rate banks use to revalue their foreign currency books each day.

What the number means

A lower rupee-per-dollar figure means each dollar buys fewer rupees, so the local currency has gained ground. The move on Monday was small — less than three paisa — but it kept the rupee on the stronger side of Rs277, a level it has hovered around in recent sessions.

The rupee’s direction is shaped by the balance of dollars coming in and going out: remittances from Pakistanis abroad, export earnings and foreign investment on one side, and import payments and debt servicing on the other. When inflows are steady and import demand is contained, the currency tends to hold its ground.

What to watch

Traders will now watch whether the rupee can hold below Rs277 in the coming sessions, and whether the central bank’s reserves position and remittance inflows continue to support it. The SBP publishes a fresh closing rate at the end of each working day, so Tuesday’s figure will show whether Monday’s small gain holds.

For now, the official message from Monday’s close is simple: the rupee ended the day a touch stronger, at Rs276.72 to the dollar.
